Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums manac.

You will need an appropriate length AS-EC-XXE cable. The AS-EC-XXE cables come in different lengths and will be used to connect the 998 unit to the 5-Port Ethernet Switch.  So replace “XX” in the cable name with the length.  They come in 2,  10,  15,  20 and 30 foot lengths.  So a 15-foot cable would be an AS-EC-15E.

5-Port Ethernet Switch (AS-ETH-5PXG).  All the other devices will be connected to this switch.

AS-ETH-NMEA2K NMEA 2000 Networking Adapter.  This will get connected to both the 5-Port Ethernet Switch and your Evinrude motor.

A NMEA 2000 backbone.  We do not sell these items but remember that it has to be connected to power.

You will need to check with Evinrude for the correct cabling to connect your motor to the NMEA 2000 backbone.

Thanks for the info, would i still need the AS-ETH-5PXG if I don't hook up to the evinrude and just use the pilot link

No you would not manac.  The 998c HD Si unit has one Ethernet connection port on it already.  You only need a Switch when you want to connect more than two devices together.  Since the i-Pilot Link comes with an Ethernet Connection cable you shouldn’t need anything else.

manac,
It depends on what software version you have in the unit(s) you will use with your i-Pilot Link, hold on here as it gets confusing…
- First off there are software updates for both the i-Pilot Link Controller and the Remote.  So you will need to download a software update for each one (these can be put on the same memory card).  Which ‘set’ of downloads you need is based on what product you are running and what version of software it has.
- Like you said, there is a set of upgrades for the ONIX/ION units.  These are in the *.pkg file format.
- If you are running a non-ONIX/ION unit and the software is lower than 6.900 you will need to load the 1.160 version software for both the Controller and Remote.  These will be in the *.bin file format.
- If you are running a non-ONIX/ION unit and the software is 6.900 or higher you will need to load the 2.050 / 2.020 version software for both the Controller and Remote.  These will be in the *.bin file format.

This should all be detailed in the release notes for the software.

What brand, type and capacity is this SD card manac?
What type of memory card reader are you using with your computer?
How did the software get onto the memory card and is this the same memory card you used to update your unit’s software?
Can you save a Screen Snapshot to the memory card when it is in your 998 unit?

I'm using a scandisk class 10 32 gb card I'm using the card reader on my Mac computer which has parelles so I can run windows also  . I have two cards the same and humminbird PC and my 998 don't recognize the cards there show on the edrive but won't come up in hummin PC program . I down loaded the update off of the my humminbird page that shows all my different componates I've registered . I've tried both sd slots on the 998 and it won't allow any recording or snapshots

Do you know someone with a PC that could format the memory card(s) for you and try them again in your 998 unit?

Got it figured out I think because I'm not using a card reader I had to ensure the card reader was USB mounted it now shows up in humminbird PC right away .
The next problem I've found is I've got auto chart pro I've recorded and loaded data to the program and when I create custom map and try to update with lake master update icon the program becomes unresponsive . I've reloaded auto chart program with same results. Anyone else come across this problem .
