596c HD compatibility with US2
« on: March 07, 2013, 11:29:12 AM »
According to the Minn Kota compatibility chart, the 596c HD is listed as compatible with US2...but then, so is the 1198c SI...which of course isn't fully compatible.
So, is the 596c HD fully compatible with Minn Kota's US2 via the MKR-US2-8 adapter?

Thanks in advance...

Thanks Greg...

The price of the 596c HD versus the 596c HD DI (on sale) are virtually the same.
So, if I hooked the DI model to the US2 would I still get 2D (only)?  I ask because, with my tendency for abuse, I may not want to install the DI transducer on the trolling motor (yet).

If you connect the 596c HD DI to the US2 transducer you could cause damage to the internal electronics of the unit.  In the DI model units we use the DI sonar itself to obtain the water depth (all depending on what the water depth actually is), so not having the DI part of the transducer connected could cause the unit not to read the water depth as well as possibly damaging it.

I should have thought of this earlier:
We make a trolling motor version of the DI transducer for the 596c HD DI.  It is called the XTM-9-DI-25-T and it is shaped differently than the transom mounted version.  It will withstand more abuse than the transom mounted ones too.

This may work better for you and you would be able to have DI and 2D sonar off the trolling motor.
