Card Reader and SD/SDHC cards
« on: May 06, 2012, 12:30:14 AM »
Just looking to clarify some things before I purchase what I need.........

I was told to purchase the card reader from HUMMINBIRD but in the product description it states to not read "SDHC" cards.....Do I really need to purchase that card reader from HUMMINBIRD?

Which card readers are preferred? Which ones do you guys use?

Going right along with my previous questions, almost every SD card I see for sale online and the cards pretty much everyone on here mention are SDHC(high capacity) cards so im assuming thats the route im going.

One last thing is I noticed some other topics with users having problems with the faster cards and the newer updates. Should I be looking for the 20 mbs cards or have the problems since been resolved?

Thanks for all/any help guys

Hi

Welcome to the forum ;)

You do not need a special card reader, each common is installed on your PC or laptop if appropriate.

Power....a large card is not required unless you have billion waypoints or saved tracks/trails.
For sonar recording a 4g is fine. You want to keep the recordings to about 30 minutes or less.
If you are saving a lot of snapshots then maybe an 8 or 16 gb card..
We use the 4g and it works about all day for our needs.. We may take a short break and  copy the records to the computer and  then reformat for the next series  of runs.

You will want a card reader that does support SDHC card usage.  DO NOT order the one from the Humminbird web site (although the last one I got was SDHC compatible) as you can get the same one or better elsewhere for a better price.
