Title: 798 CI HD SI chart menu gone.

Hi I used my 798 CI HD SI this winter for the mapping on the lakes I fish and it worked great. I had it portable with the GPS puck from a non internal unit. I mounted it in the boat without using the external puck.

Is there a way that i could have turned the GPS off on the unit? If i go to menu, menu the CHart menu is gone. I tried putting the map card in the unit and it doesn't change. When i look at the View's menu the chart or navigation screens are gone. In the self test screen the GPS says not connected. This is throwing me for a loop. When i installed on the boat I updated to the 7.12. I am not sure if the menus were gone before the update. I don 't remember if i needed to select which GPS to use when the puck was in use. The unit has 8hr on it now.

Any help appreciated.

Take a look at your status screen and see if the GPS shows connected.

would that be the same as the self test screen? says not connected.

If the GPS is set to auto, it should use the internal unless an external is connected .....Are you on the water when testing?  Have you tried to see if it still works with the external?

so i unhooked the gps puck from the 999 and ran it to the 798. when I have the external puck on the 798 everything comes up. i turned on the advanced user and the GPS is set to auto. Powered down. unhooked the external and powered back on. menus and screens still gone for navigation and chart. I am in a building though. But even with the external puck I didn't get a lock but the screens were there. the self test says GPS not connected with and without the external puck connected.

Try it outside with clear view of the sky ..... I think it has to find satellites....maybe the external is stronger.

ok, snow on the ground now. I noticed the issue on saturday when I was on the lake with the boat. I saw on the 999 that there is a choice of 5hz or 10hz on the GPS. What should that be set at? I didn't see any choices on the 798. Thanks for the help so far. Heading out now.

If it still doesn't work when you get it outside .....try resetting to defaults ....If it still doesn't work, the internal GPS may have gone bad and you have a get-around with external.

My money is on the internal GPS Receiver being bad...

Would that be covered on warranty? Unit has 8 hours on it. Built Jan of 15.

I don’t think that we built any 798ci HD Si units in January of this year.  What was your purchase date?  The warranty is from the date of purchase, not the date it was built.

SeriaL number 150105. It was from factory, warranty thing.

Set up portable out in the yard away from everything. Restored default, left for 20 min. Powered down. Restarted, restored again. Left for 3 hours. GPS not connected on accessory test. Dang.

I live in the country so no tall buildings around.

Sounds like the internal is bad ..... Better call CS about returning it

Got it back in the mail today. ;D
