short summary
998HD
GR50 -> Heading Sensor GPS
Uniden Solara UM415

I have since updated to the 998HD and kept everything the same but now I have added some stuff. I have added the 360 and replaced the GR50 with the Heading Sensor GPS puck. I got everything hooked up but I can't get the VHF to reconnect with GPS data. I have the green and black wires from the gps pigtail connected to the bare and green of the VHF. After starting up and scrolling screens on the 998HD after I deploy the 360, it would restart. Disconnecting the wires would let the 998 operate normally. I will try some more troubleshooting during the week if no new ideas come in. Will the matrix 12 detect the HS GPS?

LocDown,
I suspect that the baud rate of the GPS-HS is not compatible with the Uniden radio.  The GR50 had a baud rate of 4,800 but the GPS-HS has a baud rate of 38,400 (not adjustable).  You will probably need to run the GR50 again if you want positioning information sent to the Uniden Solara.

No, the Matrix 12 does not have the software to support the GPS-HS GPS Receiver.

I had it turned on and off. I had software version 6.740 on there and it didn't work. I just updated to 7.080 but have not tried to hook it up again. I might just call it quits if what Greg said is true, baud speed mismatch and can't be adjusted.

It's like Greg said. It's the baud rate.

I had the same problem when I switched to the HS antenna.

I bought a new radio with GPS in it and sold the old one. Standard Horizon had a $30.00 rebate when I bought mine around 3-4 weeks ago. Maybe they still do.

… or you could power up that GR50 and use the NMEA output to the SDSC radio LocDown.  If you do this I would install a power switch and fuse for the GPS Receiver.
