798ci HD SI Combo - No Water Temp
« on: June 26, 2012, 01:53:26 PM »
I just bought a new 798ci HD SI Combo and according to the Humminbird web site water temp should be built into the transducer.  However, I have not been getting a water temp on any of the screens. Is there something else I need to do in order to turn this on or did I miss-understand the feature listing?

I have updated to 6.250 but have not been back on the water yet since the update to see if that made a difference.

You should be able to get a water temp (okay, it will be an air temp) with the boat on the trailer.  Start by resetting the unit back to the factory menu settings by using the Restore Defaults menu (under the Setup menu tab).  If that does not work than go to the Views menu tab and scroll down to the Accessory Test menu and set it to “Visible”.  Than scroll through the Views until you get to the Accessory Test View and see if it shows the Temperature as “CONNECTED” or “UNCONNECTED”. If unconnected, call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks about getting a replacement transducer as the temp sensor in your new transducer may be bad.

Yep, UNCONNECTED.. also checked for bent pins, etc.  Just got off the phone with your service and the transducers are on back order till July 13th.  Very disappointing to spend so much money on a defective product and can't even get the part.  I also paid for professional installation and now I'm going to have to pull it back out.

It's unfortunate, but sometimes these things happen, and nobody
has any control over them.
If you'll be patient, Humminbird will take care of you.

I hate that you got a defective temperature sensor in your transducer but this is a bad time of year for us as we get a few days off for Independence Day as well as take a few more days off to strip and re-wax the floors in our Manufacturing area.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Not at all Chuck.  Christmas would be the busiest time of the year for Santa while this part of the year is the slowest time for our Manufacturing folks.  We are in between our Spring-Summer building period and our Fall-Winter building period.  The timing of this building maintenance is to minimize the impact on our ability to produce units and accessories.  Unfortunately we did not build enough of these transducers ahead of time to have what we now need on hand.

Hmmmm, sounds like a plan needs to be changed.  If you aint building a person should still be able to get "parts"..
Santa has to work all year long to meet his schedule..

We normally have a “safe stock” of units and accessories Chuck.  I image it was a parts delivery conflict or an unanticipated usage of this transducer that has left us without any.

Nope, can't get out on the Manufacturing floor unless I want to be waxed and fired.

Greg,
I don't see how it's humanly possible for you guys to predict how many
transducers will be needed.

You don't want to make too many, and have them sitting around.
Worse scenario is that you don't make enough.

I'm sure you guys have some type of trend analysis to predict such things.
The state of the economy, and the calendar season must be two huge factors.
Maybe also knowing how many units are out there, and maybe figuring a 1%
transducer failure rate.

Something like that ITG.  They call it “forecasting” but to me it is just one big guess!

Something like the trtansducer used by sevceral units is a common item and should not run out.
You use the same thing year to year and only occasionally make a new one..

I would assign the floor waxer the job. He is probably better at forecasting.... ::)
