Title: Re: Algae and the 898?
Post by: AnglerDon on May 19, 2010, 10:19:50 PM
Newbie Warning. I'm looking at the 898c si unit and was wondering how much the algae bloom in the water in the lakes in Southern Canada affects the units performance (Lake of the Prairies, Manitoba). I know on my old finders you have to turn the gain way down to get anything out of the unit. How much of an issue will this be for the SI on this unit in 30' of water? Any and all comments will be appreciated.

I imagine if the algae is thick enough that it would cause problems for all sonar; both 2D and Si sonar.  We don’t get algae blooms like that down here so I don’t know what to tell you that.
