General Questions for HB users
« on: May 13, 2010, 01:39:19 PM »
I am new to the board and new to using hb products.  I am upgrading my electronics on my bass boats and my marine dealer is a big HB fan.  I have used Garmin and Lowrance graphs with great success and have had almost no problems with the products.  I have purchased a 788ci for the bow of my bass boat and now find that I have the same shallow reading problems that I have read about on this forum.  So far I have not found any setting to fix the problem.  The unit goes haywire at 5 feet.  I did not have any problems with shallow water reading with my other units.  I do some shallow water fishing and this most disconcerning when I'm trying to find small breaklines in shallow water.  Does anyone know if HB is working on a fix?

I also want to purchase a new SI unit.  I am looking at the new 800 series vs the new 900 series.  From what the read on the forum, the only difference is the size of the LCD.  The cost for the one inch size difference is $500.  I really want the 900 series but does the cost really justify the image quality between the units?
Any help would be appreciated.

The shallow water deal is in the works by the engineer's. Probably be another software update to correct it. When? No idea but as I understand HB knows about it and is working it.

I have the 898c and have no complaints as the extra inch just wasn't worth it ($) to me. They both have the same resolution so the Zoomed images should look better on the 898c. I doubt most can tell the difference if not in zoom mode.
If I want a bigger unit I'll go to the 1100 series. Now that's BIG!  :o

BTW... HB Customer service has been top notch on these issues and others.

Thanks for the response.... I will wait on the fix.  Bass are on long sloping points after the spawn on Lake Ouachita. Will not need shallow water fix right now.

You made up my mind.  I'm going to order the 898.  I agree about money.  I don't tournament fish anymore so I really do not need the big unit.

Hogs and Tide in Fayetteville... already ordered my tickets and have my room reserved...should be a great game...
