First time out
« on: May 02, 2013, 07:30:58 PM »
Hello,
I got out for the first time today with my 798. With two
HD  transducers mounted on transom.
Saltwater, in MA, didn't see anything on the screen that looked like a fish,, in fact too often the screen was pretty much blank.
1) How do I get screen captures off the unit so I can let you all take a look at them?
2) How do I start a recording when on the water?
I couldn't figure that out at all.

Spes,
That should all be in the manual.

Screen Snapshot: Go to the accessory tab in the main menu system and find the Snapshot menu and set this to “On”.  When you press the MARK button the unit will mark a waypoint but also send a *.png picture file to the memory card you have installed in the unit.  You can install the memory card into your computer and attach a picture to your post.

Sonar Recording: go to the Snapshot and Sonar recording View.  Press the MENU button once and select to Start Recording.  This is the only View that you can start a recording from but you can stop it from any View.  A memory card has to be installed for this.

Thank You Greg,
I don't know how I missed that info in the manual.  :-[
Well, here are a few screen captures of yesterdays outing.
I was messing with settings constantly.Hopefully the ugly looking one was user generated and not a poor install. Looking at them now I see I was perhaps passing over some bait fish.

Input appreciated.
Thank You

That bottom pic is some kind of interference. The only time I have seen it that bad is when someone with a Lowrance 5series unit gets within 20yds of me. Otherwise it could be interference caused by things in the boat, i.e. trolling motor, ground loops, etc.

I think that Gimp is right; there looks to be some interference of some sort on the third image.  See if you can get it to happen again and start turning other electrical equipment off until it stops.
