Title: XPTH 9 HDSI 180 T
Post by: Zamble on May 22, 2010, 12:53:04 AM
I just bought the  XPTH 9 HDSI 180 T for my 998c SI.  I have not mounted the 998 yet, but the received the thruhull today.  I was looking over the mounting instructions and noticed it said something about have to have 2 mounted on the transom.  I have a 28' x 10' cabin cruiser.  It has twin outboard engines.  I had planned on mounting it basically just a little aft of the middle of the boat.  But my father-in-law insists that we need 2 transducers.  But I don't really think so.
What makes it hard is my boat is berthed and we do not own a trailer, so I wanted to have my ducks in a row before I go through the trouble and pay to pull it out for a few days.

Thanks for any help.

Having just been through the same dilemma/question, it basically boils down to "can the through hull be mounted so that it can see both sides of the hull line"

That is dependent on 2 things, the deadrise of your hull and the mounting block supplied with the transducer.  There's a diagram in the installation instructions that, if you read it about 200 times, finally makes sense.

I posted some photo's of the install on a 20' CC in a thread "998 & Thru Hull", not quite the same thing but perhaps enough to give you an idea.
