Navionics question for 997
« on: August 10, 2010, 07:24:39 AM »
I have a 797 and a 997. The lake map on the 797 shows the old roadbeds river channel etc the 997 has more contour lines but no roadbeds channels etc. I've toyed with the options am I missing something or do the maps on the 997 not have the channels and roadbeds?

Just got back from Iraq love the 997's big screen my home computer passed away while I was gone. I have some nice recordings to post when I replace it.

Thanks for any help you can give.

After furthur research found out that the newer Navionics chips don't have the old structure, roads, channels etc. Decided to get another SI for use on the trolling motor and will move the 797 next to the 997 by the steering wheel and use the 797 for following the creek channels etc unless someone has a 2008 Navionics for NC they would be willing to part with. Next question will the 997 let me access an earlier version of Navionics if I use a chip?

It looks like both of your units are NVB versions. If so they both have the same 2006 issue Navionics. If you have an SD 2008 Hotmaps Premium in your 797 to get contours that the NVB does not have, just put that card in your 997 and you won't need another unit or card for navigating. You can get the new Premium edition for the 797 with contours for your waters if you need  mapping at the bow.

Older year model Premium HotMaps from Navionics will work in the units but I would make sure the roadbeds, channels and such are on those map cards before buying them.
