It's been fun guys!!
« on: August 25, 2014, 11:42:03 PM »
Hey guys, just wanted to say thanks for all of the great info, research, and FACTS that you all have shown me in regards to this awesome new technology. People like Rnvinc, Hbird Greg, Rudiger, slabbacks, SFW, and so many more of you guys, have really made it an enjoyable experience for me. Also, you all are the main reason that I went with Humminbird.

But, I have decided to make a change. I just sold both of my H-bird units, and am researching which unit I am going to buy next. I am not a "high-end" buyer, so I don't have nor desire to drop the major $$ it takes to get into the ONIX. I could not get past how crummy my DI images were off of my SI unit. I just didn't want to add a third transducer to the transom, with a TS3 switch and have to switch back and forth between transducers. Also the xx8 series cannot link DI and SI together, and share data like the xx9 series can, so that was frustrating. All of my big mentors have shifted to the big ONIX units, and I feel left in the dust.  I also feel like the 2d sonar was not geared towards my kind of fishing, which is catfishing in big rivers, and striper fishing in lakes. I think the broadband sonar, and the option to add CHIRP is something to be desired, and my 898's just didn't have that capability. I did everything that I can to mark schoolies on plane, and my buddies with the other brand, can do it no problem.  Even I can see them easier on their units. I also like the vast structure scan color palatte selection on the other brand. I feel like it is easier to see/read.

I also noticed that the ONIX has shifted some of its palattes to closer match some of the desirable colors that I speak of. And I also like how they now use the numbers for SI and DI to mark distance and depth, without the annoying lines down the screen.

That being said, thank you guys for everything. Rickie, you in particular have made this an excellent voyage for me. And Greg fixes EVERYTHING!! Ill still drop by and see whats happening here and there. I am glad I spent my time with my birds, it really helped me figure out what is important to me in a combo.
