hey guys just wanted to introduce myself. im a new owner to an 898c. in april i bought a new tracker pro guide v-175 and also purchased an 898 and had the dealer install it. so far my experience with it hasnt been that great lol. my main problem is my side image doesnt read right. the right side reads fine but the left side hardly reads clear at all. i was thinking my transducer was mounted wrong because the right side is flush with the bottom and the left side is about 1/2 an inch above the bottom of the boat. the dealer told me its fine and thats as good as its going to get but then they told me this is a common problem for the 898 and they are in the works of getting me a whole new unit. i have a couple buddies with this graph so i know its an awesome unit. anyone else have this problem or is the dealer just giving me a run around still?

Welcome!!...I would say two things...First the transducer should be lower to read correctly...Second there may be some interference from the motor, trimming up the motor should help that...if it was me I would definately look into the transducer install and not an actual problem with the unit....Sometimes myself I have to trim the motor up just a tadd to get the left side scan picture clearer....Hope that helps you a little and the guys here are awesome helping on all the HB units.

thanks. yea i forgot to mention i have trimmed the motor up about as far as i could and still allow it to pump water just to see if it made any difference and it didnt. i agree, to me the transducer needs to be lower and ive told the dealer that atleast 3 time but they wont move it and ive had a few choice words with them about it so i may have to do it myself. i guess i will see if their idea this time will work and if not i may take it somewhere else. i just thought i'd get some of your alls experienced on what to check. i bought all new gear and turned my boat into a catfish rig but have only had it out 6 or so times since april due to it being in the shop  >:(. im anxious to get my graph going!

If you could make a picture of the installation, that would be verry helpfully!

Yes pictures of where the transducer is mounted will help us give you suggestions.  Make sure that they are from the left side of the transom looking across the back of the transom, from the right side of the transom looking across and at least one showing the overall back of the boat from behind.  All pictures should be from a low angle so that we can see a little up under the hull.

See if one of your buddies will let you test your unit on their boat so that you will know whether the problem is the transducer/transducer mounting or in the unit.
