596CI HD DI
« on: March 02, 2014, 12:23:03 PM »
I just bought a 899 si and upgraded to the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T I keep the compact transducer that came packaged with the 899 my question is can I use the XNT 9 Si 180 T on my 596CI HD DI i know I won't be able to use the side imaging since the 596 doesn't have it but could I still use it for the down imaging and 2D sonar

The 2d views would possibly show some type of image but not much ... because the 2d frequencies in the 596ci HD DI unit are transmitting at 200kHz/455kHz ...(the 2d piezo in the XNT 9 SI 180 T is tuned to 83kHz/200kHz)....

The DI of the 596ci HD DI would not work at all...because the XNT 9 SI 180 T has no DI piezo at all...

The XNT 9 SI 180 T has down imaging I'm not sure what you mean by that but I do understand about the not being able to view the 2d I would have to run it on the 200 kHz all the time

The DI in the HB SI units is a computer generated view garnered from the data received from the left and right SI piezoes of the SI xducer...(there is no down pointing piezo in any of the SI xducers ...except for the new ONIX and ION xducer)...

This is a HB SI xducer...no down pointing piezo...(the DI views in the SI units is the data received from the side pointing SI piezoes...and then re-arranged to "look" like a DI view...)

If you hooked a SI xducer to your 596ci HD SI...your unit would be transmitting a signal to a DI piezo that does not exist in the SI xducers...

Questions is how we all learn...

On another note...if you ever decide to get a HB SI unit....we can talk about how to hook the 596ci HD DI xducer (XNT 9 DI T) up to the SI unit...

But that's a story for a different discussion...

I believe that's the transducer that is already with that unit

The xducer I quoted there is the stock DI xducer (XNT 9 DI T)  you should already have for the 596ci HD DI...

(Some of us "experimenters" have successfully run that DI xducer on our SI units..)

The stock XNT 9 DI T is the best xducer for your 596ci HD DI unit...

No problem...questions are welcomed here at sideimagingsoft...

I asked the very same questions you are asking when I first got my unit...

I still learn more everyday...(and most of it from the very guys in this forum)...

From what I can tell from all I've read and watched the side imaging like on my 899 will definitely show me much more structure and what the bottom looks like and hopefully help me catch more fish
