deep scratches on transducer
« on: January 02, 2013, 08:35:16 AM »
Do deep & alot of scrathes on the bottom of a HDSI transducer affect it in anyway ? How deep is the electronics in the bottom ? I would think that trying to shoot a beam thru them would have to distort them a little . I know guys selling these things say they don't affect them at all but there're trying to selling them.

IMHO, no, the plastic is transparent to the sonar wave.  If it wasn't, then the scratches would make a difference, however minor.

Hi,

I can confirm scratches don't affect the result. The housing is about 2 mm thick in the bottom. You can see what the inside of a transducer looks like on several images in this thread: http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=363.0

There is no electronics inside the transducers, only ceramic elements, wires and epoxy.

When it comes to ANYTHING about transducers, you can take whatever Rickard tells you to the bank.

He is a transducer wizard.
