Thru Hull or Jack Plate Mount Transducer 798ci
« on: May 18, 2013, 09:37:40 AM »
I seem to always be messing with the transducer to get a proper reading. Was thinking of going with the thru hull transducer or a jack plate mount for current si transducer. I know you have to drill a hole for the thru hull, which I will have a local shop do, but what are pro's and con's of both (besides the "hole").

Welcome to the Side Imaging Forums seanrickr!

Jackplate mount: Pro would be that the transducer is more protected from damage.  Con would be that you have to have a second transducer to get higher speed 2D sonar readings, but if this is on a fiberglass boat and XP-9-20 transducer (and AS-Si-DB-Y cable) than you will get the best possible high-speed water depth readings.

Thru-Hull mount: Pro would be that one transducer may be able to provide all of  the Si/Di and 2D sonar readings (if your boat hull will allow for this).  Con would be the cost and that the transducer is exposed to possible damage.
