Title: Transducer wire damage. How screwed am I?
Post by: Bigmouth on October 13, 2015, 05:45:15 PM
Brand new HTM 9 HDSI 180 T transducer and during a moment of inattention it gets caught in the folding mechanism of my Ulterra.  Which of course jammed it up and ended a day of fishing before it began.  None of the wires were broken as far as I can tell but the tin foil interference shield is broken and of course about 4"-6" of rubber insulation is stripped.  So, any ideas as to how screwed I am or can I just wrap it up with tin foil and electricians tape?

Thanks in advance!

The unknown in this situation is if you can make the repair completely waterproof ... (Think liquid tape, and several layers of it) ...

Then it's the decision if shorting out the transmitters by possible water intrusion into the repair is worth saving the $$ of a new xducer ...

Interference intrusion on a repair this close to the TM windings may also be difficult ...

If it's brand new under warranty ... You might call HB and just plead for honest help ...

Thanks for the reply Rick.  By the way this is the external transducer wire not a TM wire.   Liquid tape is a great idea!  I think with some weaved and shrink tube I can keep it waterproof.

Made a call to Humminbird customer service this morning.  They won't help with instructions, advice or recommendations, period.  The only thing they said was replace it.  Thanks Hummingbird!

You made a modification. Not their fault it had a problem. They do not recommend transducer wire repair, what should they have done for you? Bob

I know our transducer shop here in Texas fixes some wires on a lot of transducer wiring and there water proof so most people say. So there's a thought you may check into. Good luck.
