Are Two Transducers Possible?
« on: December 02, 2012, 04:58:58 PM »
Hello.
I am thinking of getting either a 598 or a 597.
I would like to have a transducer on the transom when I am under power and be able to switch to a transducer mounted to trolling motor when I am hunting.
Is that possible? Some kind of switch to switch between the two transducers?

Thanks,

spes, Yes it is done all the time.

All that is needed is the right switch for the unit frome Humminbird.

Thank you for the replies..
If I got a 598ci HD SI Combo unit
would a XTM 9 SI 180 T Transducer Trolling Motor Mount Transducer be the correct transducer?
The 598 isn't listed on any trolling mount units... so i'm guessing on this.

spes:
It's weird.  The transducer you mentioned (XTM 9 SI 180 T) is mentioned as the
standard transducer for the 598ci HD SI.
But, if you look at the specs for that transducer, it says:
For Use with
797c2 SI
798c SI
Maybe Humminbird needs to update their website.

Before you buy, I would call Humminbird Customer service, just
to be sure that you are getting things that are compatible:

The web site needs to be updated.
The XTM-9-Si-180-T transducer will work with the 598ci HD Si units.

Thank You,
One more question on the 598 if I can squeeze it in here without starting a new thread  >:D
Does the wiring harness on that have an output to connect to my DSC VHF radio,,, so when I hit the panic button my GPS info is transmitted?
I think it does....
Thanks,,

I think you will probably need the AS-HHGPS cable and enable NMEA output on the 598 and that should be it, after connecting the black and green wire to the VHF radio.

He would need the AS-HHGPS cable LocDown because the 598ci HD Si unit has an internal GPS Receiver, but the correct connections would be the White and Black wires.  White being the NMEA Output (or NMEA +) and the Black being the NMEA Ground (NMEA -).  He would also need to make sure that the NMEA Output menu was turned on.
