Title: 898si vs 898hdsi
Post by: ripple on January 25, 2013, 10:13:22 PM
I am new to this forum and would like some comments on these units as sold as a packages at the hummingbird factory outlet store. The cheaper priced 898si comes with a external 50 channel wass gps. The 898hdsi does not and also more higher priced units also without wass external gps 50 channel. Is the monitor and HD capability worth the higher price. I need to use this unit on a chapperal 1999 205 se fiberglass boat. Unsure what type of mount for sender I should use for best HD and si performance. Is the wass gps better on the cheaper unit.

The only difference between these 2 unit is that the HD version is the new 2013 model that has an LED backlit screen which improves the sunlight visibility.  The non-HD version is the 2012 model and all other functionality is the same.

Just an FYI....That online store that calls itself Humminbird Factory Outlet is not affiliated directly with Humminbird.  They make it appear that they are Humminbird.  Do a Google search on them and you won't like what you find.  They are a big warehouse store in New York and get a LOT of bad reviews.

For an online purchase, I would stick with BBG Marine or Universal Mania.  They get good reviews.
