999ci black lines in side imaging
« on: June 30, 2015, 12:48:03 PM »
Just installed my 999 and took it out on the lake last week end and there are black lines in both sides of my side imaging. Also the images aren't as clear as I expected. I will add a image but it was captured while reviewing on humviewer not sure if that makes a difference but it looks pretty much the same

Black horizontal lines such as these (not matching left and right) are usually an indication that the xducer is not far enough down in the water for the specific scanning speed ... Bubbles are blocking some of the sound pulse ...

Either lower the xducer or slow down the boat speed ... And test ...

You may want to look into a L bracket from Transducer Shield and Saver to get the HDSI down farther into the water ... Below the bubbles ...

Try Restore Defaults under the Setup tab ...

Can you post a pic of your xducer ...??

I tried resetting defaults, no good. Here is a pic of the transducer.

That position should work for idle speed scanning (not high speed on plane readings) ...(I'm assuming your testing on the water - sonar does not work thru air) ...

Is there also a "shoot thru" xducer in the bilge connected with the AS SIDB Y cable in your setup ...??

If there is also a "shoot thru" xducer ...disconnect the AS SIDB Y cable and test the HDSI directly into the head unit and test on the water ...

If there is not an additional "shoot thru" xducer... Can you crosstest your head unit on some one else's xducer or their head unit on your xducer ..??

I am testing in my driveway  :(. I thought it would atleast show something but I'm not very smart. I also don't have a shoot through. Now, it did the same thing on the water. Unfortunately I don't have anyone near me. I really appreciate your help!

Definitely the sonar won't give any readings thru air ...but you're saying you have the same image when testing on the water ...??

If you are indeed getting the same results on the water ... You may have a xducer problem ...and without another xducer to crosstest with ... You should call HB ... 1-800-633-1468
