Title: I-pilot OR I-pilot Link? Any Help Appreciated
Post by: scgmc on April 16, 2013, 07:48:37 AM
I love the idea of I-pilot Link but Lakemaster does not support the main lake I fish with their GPS Map yet. I've requested they "Add My Lake", but no reply and who knows if they ever will.
With that said, I still would LOVE to have the Follow The Contour function in the future if they add my lake, so I'm considering purchasing the Link anyway.
It's a case of not wanting to buy Old Technology if there is a real benefit to buying the New Technology. Thing is- it's a $350 decision and I'm not sure I will ever get to use it.
What do you guys think? Is there any real benefit to the Link if you don't have the GPS map? Any advanced controls that you get with the Link not related to the GPS Map? Lastly, will it even work if you don't have the Lakemaster GPS Map? Everything I've read doesn't spell it out clearly.

I pilot link provides far more features than just follow the contour. The ability to see your routes and spot lock locations on the HB unit. Increased amounts of both tracks and spot locks, ability to create routes on screen and have tm follow that route. You can also "export" routes and spot from remote to HB unit and then save it all on SD card for back up or share with buddies. Navigate to a waypoint and have tm spot lock when it gets there.

I understand that follow contour is very nice but not sure why people get ao hung up on that like it is the only thing about the link.

Every function other than follow the contour works without Lakemaster chip except follow the contour. You can still lay out a route on a Navionics chip and have it follow that, you just have to do it manually.

Thanks Jim Jack,
That is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for! In my search, I had not found that all the other features were possible without the Lakemaster GPS card.
