Hi,
Anything that can reflect sound can be imaged, but the result depends on type of transducer, distance between transducer and target, the orientation of the beam in relation to the target (a hull would be particularly difficult to image because of its shape with curved surfaces), beam shape and more. There are different types of standard transducers, but the most common type, the depth sensing puck 200/50 kHz ducer with a wide cone shaped beam is not very usable. Such transducers may perhaps be used for detection of major defects on a hull in the hands of a very experienced operator. A sideimaging transducer is much more adequate, but again, the images will still be hard to interpret for an amatuer (like me  :) ).

Rickard
