Topic: Black left side in SI

I have a 998 with the SI transducer mounted to the TM. I went to the lake today, and noticed that on my SI screen, the left side was black. I made sure my settings for side were both. I turned my it off and back on, still black left side. I restored factory defaults, still black left side. Lastly, I put my 1197 on that transducer, and still showed a black left side. I put the 998 on the transom transducer and the SI worked great and showed both left and right sides.

I think my transducer went bad. Is that what it sounds like to you all.

My unit is only a year old. I am a Humminbird select member, so I have a 2 year warranty on my units.  Are transducers covered as well?

It does sound like the transducer may be bad.
I would first check that that there is nothing blocking the left side on the TM transducer.
Also make sure that the left side of the transducer is clean of mud and grass.

Seems like it must be the transducer or the cable.  Maybe look the cable over real good to see if there is any damage.

You will have to contact HB about the warranty unless Greg checks in to let you know.

Ckeck the xducer plug and clean it also the plug on the back of the unit. good luck. Roddy

I don’t know the answer to that one Bob B but would guess that it is covered unless it is physical damage.  he will have to check with the Humminbird Customer Resource folks on that one.

If the left display is black it probably is the transducer, most likely internal connecton.  There was an assembly problem a while back on this.  Dont know the exact time frame..or to how many were affected....

Sent the transducer off to HB today.

HB replaced the transducer.
