Title: Dual Transducers
Post by: wickerbill on September 15, 2014, 10:50:31 AM
My wife just presented me with a new 998 si for my birthday.  I presently have a 798 si mounted on my pontoon.  I have the transducer mounted on one of the tubes of the boat.  There is no secondary mount on the other tube.  Am I courting trouble if I mount the second transducer for my 998 side by side with my 798 transducer?

I figure there will be a problem.....Is there a fix other than having another mount welded on the other tube....Not my first choice of things I want to do to a new pontoon......

To ease installation of the 998...Will the 798 transducer work okay with the 998 or do I need to restring the 998 transducer through the boat?

Thanks

Yes you will be courting trouble if you mount the 998’s transducer beside the 798’s transducer.  The Si sonar radiates out of the sides of the transducer and one transducer will block the Si sonar of the other transducer.

A possible fix would be to Ethernet connect the two units but this is only possible if that is a 798ci HD Si model 798 unit (must have “HD” in the model name).

The 998 will work okay with the 798’s transducer but the 455kHz Si/Di sill be less defined and the 800kHz Si/Di will not work.  It would be better to mount the 998’s larger HDSi transducer.
