Can I upgrade from Navonics bundle
« on: November 23, 2010, 10:15:40 PM »
1st Post...

I've got a 798c SI with the Navonics bundle.  I know that the maps aren't the most current ones available.  I was wondering if it's possible to add a newer update for just my region without wiping out the rest of the Navonics bundle maps?

hank,

Welcome to the forum.  Right now, there is no way to upgrade the internal maps.  And I am not sure there are any plans to add this as a feature.

The only way to get new charts would be to purchase a current Navionics card for your area.

Good Luck,

Hank

I have an 1197 with the Navionics bundle and recently purchased one of their cards, the cards have more detail with a number of HI DEF lake maps.  You can find out what lakes are covered for your area as well as which lakes are Hi Def.  If I was to make another purchase I would opt for the cards instead of the NVB unit.

The NVB is embedded on a chip in the internal memory of the unit. There is no way to update that data BUT Navionics offers a rebate promotion for those that want later version map data: http://www.navionics.com/NavionicsPromotions.asp You can purchase maps on SD Card and get a rebate from Navionics for NVB units.

Ok..I guess I wasn't clear.  Here's what I want to do:

Keep the NVB for everything except my region.  I would like to have the most current maps for my region without losing the NVB for the other regions.  Can this be done by purchasing just that chart?  Or if I do that, will it completely wipe out the NVB for the other regions?

Thanks...

Yes, you can add a Navionics or Lakemaster software card to your unit for the region you want.
The unit reads the infomation directly from the SD card and does not download the software to the unit memory so it can have no affect on the NVB software.
At no point can you delete or alter the NVB software.

Thanks very much for the clarification.  I appreciate it.  I do most of my fishing locally (KS) so I'd like to have the more current maps available.  Once a year, we go to Minnesota and the map for that lake works just fine for me.
