Will my 1198 work with the ice transducer
says its compatiable

Change the "Transducer Select" menu (under the Sonar tab) to the "Dual Beam" selection and your 1198 will function as a 2d/GPS Chartplotter ...

Then the 1198 can use the XI 9 20 ice xducer (200kHz/83kHz) ...

Yes. 
XI 9 20 will work with 1198.
