Help With Side Imaging
« on: March 20, 2011, 12:36:47 AM »
Just had a 898C SI unit put on my boat.  When viewing both the Left and Right side, the right side is black?  Any ideas?

Where do you have the transducer mounted. Can you post a side view image and
a rear image of the installation. Gary

It looks a little high....maybe a bit upward tilt......Is this on the left (port) side of the transom....If so the motor may be blocking the right beam....
Maybe take the picture from a bit farther back to show the whole back side...

With the transdcuer mounted on the step, it is going to cause issues with turbulence coming off the bottom of the hull.

Post some snapshots of what you are (or arent) seeing on the screen.  Also a shot of the transducer mount from the side so we can see the depth of the step on the hull.

Just from this though, I would definitely say the transducer needs to be mounted lower down on the bottom step.

The transducer is on a Ranger Reata 186.  It is mounted on the starboard side of the boat.  The unit was installed by a Ranger/Humminbird dealer.  Here is a couple of more pictures.ila_renderedila_rendered

I would start with moving the toe or outer most end of transducer up at least 3 clicks
Make sure motor is lifted up while using SI .  Gary

If mounted on the starboard side I dont see why you should have a blank right si..If any thing it should be the left...

Check your si and make sure you are seeing  the left....there was a problem posted a bit ago about the possibility of the transducer being backwards in the display.  Right was left.  I will see if I can dig up that post and see if any fix was given...
Let us know if you can determine the right vs left si image.

I have decided to take the boat back to the dealer.  I will post what the resolution is.

Thanks for your help.
