Topic: New 998 date/time

Just got my 998 setup in the living room running the simulator.  Date time are wrong.  I could not find an option to set.

Is the date time picked up from the GPS?

from GPS, yes.

You will be able to chose daylight saving time as an option.
It's in the set-up menu. Scroll down to daylight saving time.
Choice is off-on. Default is off.

Fyi, I don't know if this goes for all models but, when I do a screenshot, the timestamp is not actual. It shows up as Jan 1, 1980 for file properties.

The time and date come from the GPS satellite data.  With the unit running in the Simulator mode it is normally not receiving any GPS satellite data and so shows the simulated date and time.  There is no way of changing this without connecting a GPS Receiver.

The 998 I have shows a date stamp of 1/27/2010 when run in the simulator mode.

The time stamp for screen snapshots is the UDT time – not your local time zone time.

Lockdown, we have the same issue with date/time..Which is why we put our files in folders that contain the date and time. 
Filename = date recording file contains the location and time .........

My 998 also showed this date in simulator mode.... When I hooked up the GPS receiver to see if date and time were coming from the GPS then everything was correct in forced simulator mode .......

Yep, the unit needs something to tell it what the date and time is (GPS).

I guess it would cost extra to have a date/time internal as in other electronic products. It could sync with signals already out there or update (correct) itsself with GPS. Might be a good addition for future considerations..If the cost is not too high.,.

It would need an internal battery or a battery connected all the time if it were to keep time.

A lot of electronics today have these nickle sized batteries to keep the system "warm" which includes date and time.  These batteries last 5 or more years..
It could be done with out a lot of cost..Or one one think it could be..
Now on the other hand, is it important to have an internal clock. Do we need one for recording since we are gps connected anyway.
Hmmmmm could be.. could not be...
