Topic: Problems with 998 HD SI, blank dark screens on SI and DI.

Here's the problem.

I have a very dark screen on SI, with only the column line showing up.  I turn up the sensitivity up to 20, and barely see the bottom.  No structure at all.  I even drove by stumps and docks, nothing.

DI, same issue, only the line indicating the bottom of the lake.

I hooked up another 898 up to my transducer, works perfect.  So I took MY unit and hooked up to his transducer, still the same problem with dark screen.

I called humminbird, got an RMA.....I may send it in monday if I cannot figure this out.

I had this problem before, sent in the unit to humminbird, got everything back, and they said nothing was wrong with the unit or my transducer.  Worked fine when I got it back last year.

I have reset system defaults, updated to the latest version, still no help.

If anyone has some ideas, please let me know.  I'm sure I have hit something, changed something, or I'm overlooking something.  I'm about to pull my hair out with this thing.

The only item to try that I saw on here was to make sure that I have the depth setting deeper than the water that I'm in.  I'll try this tomorrow.

Your troubleshooting has been very thorough ...

Testing the other 898 on your xducer with good results eliminates xducer problems ...

Testing your head unit on the other xducer with bad results points to an issue with your head unit ...

I tried again today, nothing.  Its boxed up, ready to go back to BB.  Ill repost with results.
