No DI or SI HELP
« on: March 31, 2013, 11:55:15 AM »
Maiden voyage with my new 598. Regular sonar works fine but DI and SI are black. The demo for both works well. Any thoughts?

What transducer are you using with the 598ci HD Si unit?
Where is it mounted (pictures please)?
Do you know anyone else that has a Humminbird Side Imaging unit that would let you test your unit on their boat (transducer) and their unit on your boat’s transducer?

he transducer is the one that came with the unit. It is the compact side imaging one. I find that if I turn the sensitivity all the way up I get something in Side imaging that looks like it should but this with the transducer hanging off the edge of my desk. I haven't yet had a chance to test it again in water. Down imaging continues to show black. Do I have to make some kind of depth adjustment to fix this?

Ken,

You will not be able to test it on the side of your desk.  The transducer has to be in the water.  It will cause all sorts of issues if not in the water.

Please let us know what happens when you get back out.  Some screenshots would be good.

About the only adjustments that you could make to possibly cause it not to read Si sonar information would be to set the Si Range too short for the water depth you are in.  Set it to 100 feet next time you go out to test it and stay in water less than 50 feet deep.  You can also try resetting the menus back to the factory defaults by using the Restore Defaults menu (under the Setup menu tab).

If the Si sonar is not showing anything than the Di sonar will not be showing anything.

Do you know someone else that has a Humminbird Side Imaging unit (any model) that would allow you to test your unit on their boat/transducer?
