Title: Disconnecting advanced accesssories
Post by: 6speedy3 on April 15, 2012, 11:51:02 AM
I just read the instructions on the Humminbird website, for downloading upgrades to a sd card and then the unit. It says to disconnect any advanced accessories such as interlink and GPS receiver, as well as setting the unit back to default. Is not disconnecting the  advanced accessories the cause of some download problems people are having?

No...the reason for disconnecting is to ensure there are no conflicts while updating.
Some times you may have to also install a compatable accessory upgrade.

So, would it be safe to download the update without disconnecting the GPS receiver or no?

We do our updates with the GPS connected.

Have had no problems with this..

6speedy3,
Could you post back a link where on the Humminbird web site it said to disconnect the GPS Receiver please?  I saw where it stated to disconnect the smart accessories but this did not list the GPS Receiver (and it shouldn’t).

I haven't disconnected anything while doing any software updates.
I just set the unit back to default settings before and after the update.

I think disconnecting and re-connecting devices will do more harm than
good, because the connectors are on the flimsy side.

ITG, I agree with you.
I can see maybe an interlink or cannonlink, but GPS I cant understand.
I think HB wanted to ensure no mismatch as we have seen in a few of the latest releases.
I am in total agreement with the connectors.
We have portable units and it scares me any time we have to disconnect. (the HB units)
We are working with our local electronics group who will replace the HB connectors with a more sturdy locking type. (as used by other mfg'rs)
This will be an inline connector and not the one on the back of the unit.
Not to much we can do about that.
I am sure it will be  much better and more durable as we have those types on other portables without problems.
We want to electronics mfg to do the soldering work as this can be a big issue if not done right..
We do have on the wish list a request to replace the flimsey connectors with better ones in the future.
