998c SI and in hull transducer
« on: May 15, 2012, 05:13:25 AM »
Hi All,

Just wondering which in hull transducer will work witht the 998c SI? I used the XP 9 20 T and it isn't working. I realise the side imaging won't work with one of these but has anyone got one working for 2d imaging?

I installed it as directed and it just reads 1 foot 6, is it not compatible? Should I have used the XP 9 QB 90T?

Thanks

Ryan

I have the same transducer, but a different Humminbird (728).  I looked up XP 9 20 T transducer and it appears to be compatible with almost everything but 998 is not mentioned this does not make sense since the 1197 AND 1198 are compatible.  I would suggest that you contact Humminbird customer service to confirm whether or not it is compatible.

With my 998, I used the XP 9 20 (no temp) transducer to mount in the hull, and the AS SIDB Y splitter cable.  It works very well, at all speeds.  You don't need the temp, as that is acquired through the hdsi ducer.
The XP 9 20 T should work as well.  I assume you did use the splitter cable.  If it isn't working, either the transducer is bad, or perhaps when you epoxied it in place, there were some air bubbles either in the epoxy or the hull itself.  Hope you get it working.

thanks, I'm not using the y cable. might try a factory rest on the next trip. Failing that I think I will get a transom mount.

choc_e,
Did you test the transducer location before epoxying the transducer in place?

Have you tried using your 998c Si unit with the standard XHS-9-HDSi-180-T transducer that comes in the box?

I didn't test it first because I was short of time and this is a common position for the transducer in this boat. I have tried the transducer that came with the unit and works fine.

Are there any other settings Greg?
