connecting two units
« on: February 06, 2011, 04:44:54 AM »
Hi I currently own 2 units, one is a 987c SI,  software version 4.770, the other is a 997c SI, software version 4.950 and I would like to connect the two and share my waypoints and take advantage of any other options linking them might offer, also add the XM weather antenna, I currently have a weather sense module for each, the yellow one for the older 987 and the black one for the newer 997 as well. Can you tell what products I will need to purchase to get up and going, and also tell me if I am correct in thinking that the 997 should be on the dash with the XM weather antenna and the 987 for the trolling motor? If I remember right I have read that the transducer I currently have mounted on the transom for the 987 is not the same as the one for the 997, and I will need to swap them. One other thing is can I mount the transducer for the 987 on the trolling motor or would you recommend another location for the front unit, if the trolling motor is an OK location I will also need to know which mount to use for that also, I have a Motor Guide with a 3.5 inch diameter motor. One more problem I am having is my computer will not recognize the units for updating through PC cable, I am able to do the updates via the SD card though, are there drivers available for Windows Vista Ultimate that I could download?

whlsup,

You will need the Interlink module to connect the two units.  I would say the 987 would be fine as the bow unit.

As for the trolling motor mount, Humminbird has a basic one but you may want to consider something like Transducer Shield and Saver.

Good luck,

The recommended way to update the unit is with an SD card.  As for HB PC not recognising the unit, it is most of the time related to the port on the serial connection.  Are you using a USB to serial adapter?

No the transducers are different although they look the same.

The 987 uses the older first generation Si transducer, XHS-9-Si-160-T, that has the 262kHz and 455kHz Side Imaging sonar frequencies along with the 50kHz and 200kHz 2D conventional sonar frequencies.

The 997 uses the high definition Si transducer, XHS-9-HDSi-180-T, that has the 455kHz and 800kHz Side Imaging sonar frequencies along with the 200kHz and 83kHz 2D conventional sonar frequencies.

OK I went out and purchased the interlink module updated my 997 to the 5.32 software, but the interlink gives me an error, the 897 software is incompatible, I am running the 4.77 which is the latest available. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Contact the Humminbird Customer Resource folks about getting the 4.995 version software for your 997 unit and install it.

There is currently problems in compatable code when running the interlink. Search around this forum and you will see what the guys are going thru.
Customer suppport ios a place to start so they can log the calls, see the number of guys having problems,  and maybe get a fix to the codes.
