Waypoint management
« on: August 16, 2011, 08:53:57 AM »
Ive seen a few posts about this new software, but forgive me, I dont use HB PC much if any and am not not sure about using it. I have an older version of HB PC and used it twice to back up my nav data...When the new WM software does come out do I have to upgrade the version of HB PC I have now? Ive seen a few posts about issues with the new version of HB PC. I use the units for fishing, havent taken screeshots or video, or messed with the PC aspect of the HB units...Just wondering if I need the WM software or not and what will be the benefit of using it. I dont really want to update the PC version and use the WM software if I am going to have to spend a lot of time figuring it out.

Most likely you would not have to use HB PC.  You should be able to backup waypoints by exporting to an SD card as you can do now.  Once on the SD card you can copy files to a PC or burn them to a CD, DVD, etc.

HB PC does make manual entry of waypoints much easier and quicker.

I don’t think that you will have to update your HummPC version.  The Waypoint management part of both the unit and Humminbird units is more like an add-on in that you don’t have to use it.  In fact unless you look for it on the current version of HumminbirdPC you may not even notice that it is there.  Now if you start using some of the newer waypoint icons you may have to update your HummPC version…

Thanks ET, it would be nice to use the WM siftware if I could group GPS #'s into areas, re: all the numbers for one reef in a certain file...would make the scroll through a lot easier....

Another Question, If I edit a waypoint in HBPC like change a name, when I upload back to my unit will there be two? re: the original plus the edit? or when uploading will the waypoint be changed since its the same GPS coordinates? as you can see yes I am a newby with the PC aspect..... ;D

That depends on how you go about managing your waypoints Big E.  If you simply download them to the SD card, open that data in HumminbirdPC and make whatever changes you want (like renaming 20 waypoints) and than upload that back to the SD card and load the SD card into your unit: than you will have 20 duplicate waypoints (except that the 20 you just loaded will have different names but the same coordinates).  If you instead delete the Nav data off of your unit before uploading the modified waypoints, than you will not have duplicates.  Be sure and select to “Replace” the Nav data on the SD card when you upload it back to the SD memory card.
