Topic: Interlink and GPS antenna

I have seen two different connection diagrams for the GPS antenna and the Interlink module between two units.  One diagram shows the GPS antenna connected to the Interlink, and each of the Interlink cables going to their respective locator.  The second diagram shows the GPS antenna NOT connected to the Interlink, but using a y-cable to split the connection between to GPS locators.   Humminbird customer service suggests using the y-cable, but some of their support docs show the Interlink connection. 

What are the advantages/disadvantages for each of the connection types?

If you want to share waypoints between the units or other data like weather sense, you have to use the Interlink.

The main reason for not connecting the GPS thru the Interlink is that the interlink does not handle the new higher gps refresh rates. 

What is your setup or what do you want it to be?  What units?

Those diagrams were helpful.  Thanks.  I have a 998cSI and wiring the boat with the Interlink to add a second 998 or possibly an 898 later on.  I don't want to tear up the boat twice.

Why wouldn’t you use a GPS Receiver for each unit?  You will already have the GPS Receivers, Y-cable and InterLink module so will not need anything else to make it happen.  The advantage of this is in mounting the GPS Receiver as close to the transducer as possible so you get more accurate waypoints.

Good point Greg.  I only have one 998 unit right now and thinking that I will move it from console to front when I need it.  I am using Johnny Ray mounts which will make this easy.

I did buy a GR-50 not knowing the 998 came with an antenna and I could wire up the boat as suggested.   Curious if the 898 units are  shipping with GPS antennas, or just the 998?

Yes, the 898c SI ships with the GR50 GPS antennas!  All of the SI units come with GPS.
