Humminbird 947c Eratic Operation
« on: October 06, 2012, 04:03:57 PM »
Looking for some help, I have a Humminbird 947c that's not working to well. It started acting up in June during an offshore trip. First with the water temperature started registering 148 degrees and the depth at 1100. As the summer passed the depth gauge started working correctly but never the temp. I went offshore two weekends ago and lost my depth again. I tried a new transducer last weekend with the same results. I contacted Humminbird and they want $480 to repair this unit. Is this a common problem for this unit?

I'm thinking of possibly changing the whole unit. I have been told my current transducer cannot be used with anything other than a 947c.. The transducer is definitely different looking. It appears to be 4" round externally mounted in the keel with 1/2 - 3/4" bronze threaded pipe (with nut) on the interior of the hull. It has about one foot cable attached. The transducer is even with the bottom of the boat so I'm guessing it must be recessed somewhat. Any ideas of what I might have?

If I bought a new Humminbird unit would all accessories work without having to be replaced? Thanks for any input

The gps sensor ,power cable and  weather sense if you have them ,can be used on a new head unit. My unit developed an issue, which was not reconising the transducer. I  returned it to Humminbird USA and it was promptly fixed. I am not aware of other units having your problem. Check on the standard cost of a repair at the usa site as this is the most cost effective. Still using mine a i love the 3D pallette when searching for dive sies.  At least humminbird will repair an older unit.  Garmin dont support units that are not current models and thier service and product support dont compare with humminbird . If looking for something new you cant go past the side immaging units i have an 1197si, this is one sweet unit.

The 967c 3D will work on the same transducer and accessories as the 947c 3D does.  The 967 replaced the 947 in our model line-up but that was some years back as I don’t think that we have built the 967c 3D units since about 2009.  You would be replacing an older model unit with one that is only a few years younger.  You may want to look at one of the Side Imaging units as paula 8519 suggested.
