GPS antenna(receiver)
« on: June 24, 2012, 10:44:17 AM »
Hey guys, great forum. Just got a used unit and it needs a new receiver. There seems to be 2 versions of the same part number receiver. In the pictures one seems to have a tab on the bottom and the other one looks to have a flat bottom. Anyone know what the difference is?

The GPS receiver "with" the tab is the AS GR16 channel...
The GPS receiver "without" the tab is the AS GR50 channel...

Check your unit's compatability here...

The GR50 outshines the GR16 in its faster start up times and can track more satellites at once which can help in overall accuracy.

Look around on the internet there are lots of places that have good prices.

When looking at the price make sure you include the shipping and taxes they will charge.  Some of the pricing is better only because of their shipping and handling charges.

bomac,
What model Humminbird unit do you have that needs a GPS Receiver?  Not all are compatible with all model units.

That is not even a correct picture of the GR16 GPS Receiver on the Humminbird web site.  The GR16 GPS Receiver uses the same housings and gasket between them as does the GR50 GPS Receiver.  Plus on the GR50 GPS Receiver picture they used the discontinued AS-GRHA GPS Receiver!   ::)  I’ve asked that these pictures be updated but they so far have not been.

It is a 997si. AS GR50 should be here tomorrow and then we'll see if the picture is wrong.

The picture will not be right.  The AS-GR50 has “AS-GR50 GPS MODULE” printed on the top of it.  The GR50 will work with your 997c Si unit.

Is it AS - GR50 or just GR50?

Thanks for  all the help. It came in yesterday,AS GR50.  Plugged it up and it's amazing how good my unit works with a functional receiver. Thanks again for all the help.
