798 Readout Help
« on: March 13, 2012, 12:31:57 PM »

Guys, I have just got off the phone with HB and I have been told that the readouts I have in any "Chart View" is what I have to live with.  My readouts are "blank", "speed"; "course" and "location" across the bottom of my unit.
I would like someone with a 798 to confirm this.  Needless to say I am very disappointed with that
answer. I run 20 miles or so often to fish and the "Chart Views" are what I want to use
to get there. I hope HB will change that in the next software update and soon.  :'(  Fay

They should not be blank....

Do you have the transducer connected ?

Have you tried setting your unit back to factory default ?

Shooter00, I do not have a transducer connected.  When I change the readouts and scroll
thru the views nothing ever changes in any view that I can see them at the bottom.  Why
would we have have the option if they never change?   Help desk says they cannot be changed
on the small 798 units.    :'(  Fay

HMMMM, I guess HB can add to their marketing promos..

"Not All Units are Created Equal".... :o

Such a basic issue to not be consistant across lines.....

Very true Chuck.  I am really disappointed.  My old Garmin Combo unit was sure better on the
navigation side.  I just hope the HB "Si" will be worth the trade off.  thanks for the help - Fay

I know the feeling...We still use Lowrance for navigation........Waypoints, ease of use, tracks, trails and routes...

The manual states that the select readouts feature is for sonar view....

If your unit enters the default simulation mode on start up like it does when you do not have a transducer connected your settings will not be saved....

You must manually select simulation mode on the start up screen...

hmm soundes weird. on the older units you just enter the setup menu tab, activate advanced user mode and then you get a field named select readouts in the same menu. (setup menu tab) its the one that has tools on it.  i dont have a 798 so i dont know if this works on that model, but i think it would be wery strange if you couldnt deside witch readouts you`d like to use.  and it would be nice if you post a reply, if this works or not.

sjefsrafsern, my unit works the same way I guess but without the transducer being attached I
don't have much of a sonar view.  :)  I wanted to see more navigational data on my chart view
and it looks like that is not going to happen.  When I run to waypoints depth is the only sonar
info. I care about.  Hope to make some recordings soon.  Water is much warmer that it should
be for March.  Later - Fay
