788ci Demo Mode
« on: May 31, 2011, 11:25:11 AM »
My unit powers up in the sim mode and I can't get into regular combo mode.

I have been using the unit in my truck running in GPS mode on the optional power cable with the sonar off and on the boat in combo mode with no issues.

In prep for up grading the software, this week, I turned on the unit on the power cord and went to apply default settings.  It came up in demo mode.  Also, my recent tracks did not down load in HumPC.

In demo, the screen says to press the exit button to leave demo.  This has not worked nor has switching off and disconnecting power.  This has been going on for 3 days.

Thanks, Mike
Mike T

Mike, by any chance do you have an sd card in the unit?
Could one of the cursor keys be sticking?
Is this the si or di unit?

Chuck,
All of the keys seam to function properly as they have responded normally when I go thru them.
It does have the SD and the Navionics cards.  Navionic in the left and my SD in the right slot
Mine is the standard 788 with quadrabeam, got it a year ago.
I haven't seen a demo/sim option on the menu choices, but may have missed it.  Never had this problem before.
thanks Mike

I hooked the head to the boat mounting which has the xducer connected.
It came up in the normal mode and all functions worked.
Then connected back to the truck cord and it came up in the normal mode.
Guess, it had to go back to momma to get new insturctions.

Thanks for the help.  Mike

That is interesting…
I can tell you that the “Press EXIT to leave demo” message is to turn off the balloon on screen messages while in the point of sale simulation mode (this is the “demo” mode).  It does not turn off the point of sale simulation mode itself.  That can be done by while the unit is in the Normal operating mode by selecting the Setup menu tab and scrolling down to the Demonstration menu and setting it to “Off”.  When you power up the unit after that (with or without a transducer connected) it will go directly into the Normal operation mode.  If you are using the unit as a GPS only unit than you will need to set the Sonar menu (also under the Setup menu tab) to “Off” as well.

Did you go in an select to “Save Current Track” each time you wanted to save a track or did you just turn the unit off?
