Title: Transducer placement
Post by: stratosva185 on September 09, 2014, 12:29:37 PM
I recently purchased a Humminbird 998C SI and own a Stratos 185 javeline series. I mounted my new transducer on the boat, took it out and see lines from either my jack plate or propeller. Can anyone help me with a better location for it. I have a 6" CMC jack plate and I am looking at the Transducer Saver mount with a 1.5" extention  if needed.

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums startosva185.

Well it’s not the propeller causing it as the prop is behind the transducer.
What side are you seeing the lines on startosva185?
Does this happen with the motor off and drifting?
Have you thought about mounting the HDSi transducer up under the jackplate?  You would have to check to see if there is enough room for this.

1.   I see the lines on the left side of the screen
2.   The screen is line free when drifting
3.    Yes I did think about mounting the transducer under the jackplate. Would placing it under the jack plate be the best location? I am thinking about purchasing the transducer saver products or would mounting it under the jack plate give me the same results and save monies?

The line on the left Si is probably from the water flowing off the left side of the hull.
Mounting the HDSi transducer under the jackplate may get rid of this.  There is no way to be sure though without actually mounting the transducer there and testing it – no guarantees.

Should I mount it directly under the jack plate? Or on the next step down between the live well inlets?

I don’t know if it would make a difference or not.
I would mount it to the bottom of the jackplate (holeshot plate) If it will fit.  If it won’t fit I would mount it directly below the jackplate.

Are you using an AS-Si-DB-Y cable and inside-the-hulll 2D transducer with this?
