Title: Upgrading Humminbird PC Question
Post by: 6speedy3 on August 12, 2011, 04:29:12 PM
I have V3.2.2 in my computer and my profile shows an upgrade available V4.1.1. I have read somewhere that I should uninstall the old version before downloading the new is this true? If it is I would have to copy all my wpts, tracks, rtes to an SD card and then reload them when the new version is installed, correct?
I see I also need to upgrade the software in my 788ci and 998si. Little leery about that.

Might consider keeping the old rev.  Greg has mentioned that the older rev's can import and export .txt files while the new version currently cannot.

If you have the luxury of 2 computers you could have a different version on each......I don't know if you can have both rev's on the same computer or not.  Maybe someone else can answer that.

Thanks Bob, I think I will take that advice, unless Greg or someone has another idea to think about.

I went back and looked at Greg's post again, and I may have misinformed you.  He said he uses 2.5.8 for the .txt files.

Greg will probably be back in here on Monday and can clear that up for you.

Bob is right: the 2.5.8 version has the *.txt file import capability that the newer versions do not have.

I don’t think that you have to uninstall the previous version of HumminbirdPC when you are upgrading.  I usually just perform the upgrade without uninstalling the last version – unless I am going back to an older version to test something.  Than I uninstall the current version.

By the way, you can run the 2.5.8 version on your PC at the same time that you are running the newer version or at least I can on my Windows XP machine.

So it would be a whole additional program, it doesn't just overwrite the old version? I have V3.2.2, so it probably doesn't import .txt files anyway?

That is my understanding that it completely replaces the old file and does not go into the old and change things..

So, then I have to transfer all my waypoints etc from V3.2.2 to the upgraded version?

I think so.  Which is why we want to make backups before upgrading...

The waypoints are not saved within the programming of HumminbirdPC.  They are saved in a location on your computer’s hard drive.  All you would have to do is ‘point’ the newer version of HumminbirdPC to that location.

Just go ahead and install the newer 4.1.1 version and than go into the Add/Remove Programs function of your computer and see if it lists more than one version of HumminbirdPC and delete the one(s) that you do not want.
