Randy,
Some play in this bracket is normal as it does allow the ‘ears’ of the metal bracket to expand outwards thus allowing the transducer to kick-up. If it bothers you or if you feel that the force is not enough you can take the transducer and pivot arm (black plastic part) off and squeeze the ‘ears’ together, but it will still have some play in it. I know that some have used some foam or rubber between the back of the pivot arm and the metal mount to get rid of any movement of the transducer, but for the most part this is not needed as the constant force of the against the transducer keeps it pressed back against the stops on the metal bracket.
