360 & 1198 antenna?
« on: April 24, 2014, 08:53:35 PM »
If I used the 360 hs antenna, do I need to the 1198 antenna hooked up as well? Or does the 360 hs antenna takes the place of the 1198's antenna?

Need a little more info about your installation.

Are you getting a bow or transom 360?  Where is your 1198 installed?  Do you only have the one unit on the boat?  You mentioned 1199 in the heading, but not in your text?

Oops, typo on the title. Have the 1198 on the bow, it's by itself, not linked to any other unit. The 1198 has its own external antenna. I'm adding the bow 360, but it has its own antenna, the hs antenna. As far as I can see, the 1198 has only one antenna input plug. I would assume to use the 360 hs antenna. Is that correct?

You only need one GPS.   The GPS receiver that came with your 360 has the heading sensor so this is the one you should use.   It is my understanding that both units are the same except the one has the heading sensor that allows you to see the direction that your boat is pointed on your graph.  I look at it as I now have a spare GPS receiver if I need one.

Thanks guys. I kinda figured I don't need 2 antenna at once.

I would think this would depend on if you are going to use the HDSI xducer for chartplotting coordination...

And where that HDSI xducer is mounted...

If you are mounting the HDSI xducer to the transom and you use the bow AS GPS HS antenna from the 360...those marked waypoints (while using the HDSI)... will be a minimum of the boat length inaccurate...

If you are not going to use the HDSI at all for anything....and all marking of waypoints will be found and designated marked by the 360...the AS GPS HS antenna alone would be fine...

The hdsi will not be used since the 360 is being used in its place. Also while reading through the 360 manual, I read that it can be used as si and di. Am I reading that right.

No 2d at the moment. This is actually my bil's install I'm doing for him. He doesn't currently have a compatible 2d transducer.

On mine, I'm running a 1199 on the bow with the 360 bow. My 2d is running off the fortrex transducer.

I think the HB unit must have, at least, a 200kHz xducer attached to obtain correct depth...(the 360 does not have a 2d piezo that I know of)...

I think Rickie is correct, the 360 requires an a seperate 2D transducer source.

Ran into an issue. Everything is hooked up, checked and double checked all wiring. Powered on the 1998 and it is not recognizing the 360. Went through the menus and nothing is highlight nor is the 360 showing up on the menu list. Waiting with plenty of times to give the 1198 time to recognize but no go after 10min or so. Retried a dozen time by powering off and restarting to no avail. Ethernet is secure.

What software version is in the 1198...??

360 requires a minimum level to operate 360...(although I'm not sure exactly which one)...

6.4* something.. I was doing a lot of reading and found out it needs 6.74 for it to be able to operate the 360. I will find out if this works.

Its too bad this info wasn't in the 360 manual.

It needs to be higher than 6.57
