Just Wondering - 898 Question.
« on: September 06, 2013, 02:38:29 PM »
Well....it seems to happen to just me but I know others have problems also with new, out of the box products.  I just received my brand new 898 SI unit for the bow of my boat and now can Ethernet with my 1198 console unit.  But when I stated to put the unit together and install on my boat, you know the little "lock" screw/bolt that secures the wire harness to the back....well, for some reason, mine is not wanting to screw in.  I check the one to the left and will not screw in that either.  I called the wonderful folks at Humminbird Customer Service telling me one of two things I already figured out, either the screw/bolt threads are bad or the inserts ( female ) part is bad.  They are sending me a new harness out today.  First, can anyone tell me what size that is...a M4 metric maybe?  I did find a screw that would semi fit and worked in all 4 holes so which tells me that the screw/bolt that came on this harness is bad.  I sure hope so...I sure DON'T WON'T to send the head back and it brand new out of the box.  Has anyone else had this problem.  Question to Humminbird folks....why don't you make all 3 * 898, 989, 1198 ) harness wire connector the same.  Just wondering if this is me or has anyone else had this problem.  Also, i'm new to this Ethernet stuff.  Can some help me on what can be done and what can't be done by using Ethernet? Any tips would be greatly appreciated or direction to learn.

That is a #8-36 screw.

Not sure why they made the 1100 series units with a different connector collector other than to try and get away from having to twist a screw into/out of the unit to install/uninstall it.  The 1100 series is the newer design.

Sonar, GPS and waypoints can all be shared via Ethernet as can some of the accessories.

Well, received the new Wiring Collector Harness today...screw is completely different and looks good.  The other screw was just a bad screw.  Now if I could just get my Transducer Shield and Savor Bracket in and my new unit back from Eufaula from a quick trip down and back for a repair on new unit...I should be set.  CAN'T  WAIT !!!!!!

I have some bad news and some good news…
First the bad news: your 898c HD Si unit is not here.
The good news: it’s on its way back to you through shipping!  The Tech found the problem, fixed it and it was sent to shipping less than 30 minutes ago.  I went ahead and had them check with another MBCC-900 too just to make sure the insert threads were good.
