998 GPS QUESTION
« on: January 30, 2012, 09:46:28 PM »
I finally completed the set up of my 998 and went out on the lake to try it out when I should have tried the gps at home first. Once on the lake I discovered my gps is not working. I have been reading so much on these forums trying to learn and can't remember where I read what. I seem to remember reading somewhere about some sort of start up procedure for external gps but can't remember where can anyone help me and let me know if there is such a procedure. I checked the system status and it shows the gps is unconnected. I'm thinking of making a direct connection to the unit versus the Y cable.

I hate to ask the obvious, but is your GPS antenna connected?  On my 998c all I had to do was turn it on - it even worked in the boat shed.

Yes its connected I checked it, rechecked it and rechecked the recheck to make sure it hooked up because I feel like its something as simple as that. Don't hate asking me anything I don't mind especially since it just may help my problem.

Have you tried disconnecting/reconnecting while the unit is on? Mine acted funny until I messed around with the cabling a little bit. Are you directly connected or via the accessory Y cable?

Check your Y cable you might have it hooked up backwards. Keep eye on your status screen make sure you have connection.

Colt45, LocDown, and Stillbear thanks for your reply as still bear said I had it plugged into the Y cable wrong, its funny how things work like they should when you hook them up correctly. Like I said in an earlier post I like this forum because so many members are quick to respond with advice and not so quick to criticize. Again thanks to all I may be needing some help on the 798 forum for RF interference from the TM.
