Title: Unit Repair
Post by: scattman on August 15, 2013, 12:36:47 PM
Had difficulty with a 798ci acting erractically.  Contacted CS and they said pay the $225 repair fee and send the unit back.  During the conversation I asked about backing up the unit, and what about way-points.  Was assured that there would not be a problem, so sent the unit.

Received it back yesterday, and problem was diagnosed as water damage and the HEAD needed to be replaced.  That's all well and good, except the unit is wiped clean- narry a way-point present - only 4 years worth of work lost!!!!!

The jist of this is:
1. I should have backed up the unit.
2. The repair people should have called and let me know what was going to happen. We could have at least discussed the issue.

I back up my waypoints nearly every day I create new ones...

SD Cards are cheap...

Sorry to hear about your bad experience...
