Where do you want to install your unit?
What type of boat?
The biggest issue is routing the transducer and other wires, to insure that you minimize any electrical noise. Also, you do not want to drill thru anything that would cause you any problems.
I just installed 2 units (1197 & 1198) one for the trolling motor and one at the console, the biggest issues I had was to make sure I was not going to drill into any wires and routing the wires from the transom to the console. I installed both units in a brand new boat before it was ever on the water, it took me a week to work out where I wanted them and to make sure my routing was correct. I am very pleased with the performance of both my units, no noise interference and the installation is clean.
Be careful about drilling thru the gel-coat it is very brittle.
Most everyone installs there own units, but you should be careful and know exactly where you want to position everything before starting and to look around to make sure you are not going to hit anything. Take it step by step and slow and easy, it is better to get it right the first time then to go back and patch holes.
