Title: 898 Install - How I did it.
Post by: compressor on April 29, 2013, 06:14:18 PM
First post here. Great site. Looking at others installation helped me so here are some pics of my install. It went pretty smooth..... was going to take it out to test yesterday until my son said, "Hey Dad, did you know your registration is expired?" DOH! Took care of that today. Was going to take it out today until the wife said,  "Honey, the truck keeps dying on me and the check engine light comes on". DOH! Trucks in the shop until Wednesday. I'll post results oafter the maiden voyage but it now looks like rain the rest of the week. DOH!

Your luck sounds like mine sometimes...

Great looking boat....

Post up some screenshots when you finally get her out on the water...

Very nice!

I'm about to attempt my install and I'd really like mine to come out as nicely as yours.

Quick question, what is your transducer mounting plate made of and where did you get it?  How thick is it and what length/size of screws did you use to attach the transducer?

Thanks

Thanks guys.
The mounting board is 3/4" thick. I used two 1 1/2" - #10 stainless metal screws to secure the board to the boat. The screws that came with the board were crap, twisted and broke while installing. I used three 5/8" - #10 stainless screws for the transducer to board. I found the board at Gander Mountain for $20. It is like composite decking and is easily cut or carved. I wasn't actually looking for one until I saw it. Probably get it cheaper online but there it was. I wasn't sure I was going to use it but after a lot of thinking and researching I decided that two holes were better than three. (there's a joke somewhere in there). Plus it helps move the transducer back a little to get past the engine mount a little more.
After I mounted the board it was a relief knowing that I can now adjust it without further worry. GPS puck is as close as it can be to transducer.
I had the ram mount from before and can't see mounting a unit without one.
The old Lowrance 520c is now moved to the front bow. $100 worth of cables for the other puck and uni-transducer trolling motor hookup though.
Screenshots sooooooon........but not soon enough.

Great, thanks for the reply.

No where near me sells the transducer mounting plates that are sold for that exact purpose.  I heard some people using composite deck boards or cutting boards.

I think I might have to take a trip to the local hardware store and see if I can get something similar to what you've got there.
