998c SI Combo to a 858c DI Combo
« on: September 26, 2012, 01:39:14 PM »
Hello all, this is my first post, just joined, so if this sounds stupid please forgive me this is all new to me.
Longtime Lowrance man ( is that a bad word here), fixin to make the jump to HB, so I have a few questions, I'm sure they have been answered here before
but being new I have no idea where to look, so please bear with me.

Units in question:
998c SI Combo
858c DI Combo

I want the 998 on the dash, the 858 on TM
if I ethernet the two together will they

1. share a single map chip
2. if I mark a spot on the 998 will the 858 see it
3. I want to be able to seek/search,mark spots, store gps #, read the map and all on the 998 and with the 858 on TM, go to that spot and do the fine tuning so to speak with DI

I would have the SI transducer mounted on the JP, and a DI transducer on the TM
I think two SI units would be overkill, I originally wanted 2 DI units but got talked into this combo, thought I might be missing something not going with SI.
When I first started to do this I had a ton of questions, but can't seem to remember them, so I guess my final question would be

Considering these 2 units, I know the 998 will do everything that I can imagine possible, but will I also be able to see,(except SI) everything I have done on the
858.
Any other items you deem necessary please throw it right in, like I said I'm new at all this

Thank you

1.  No, both units will have to have their own mapping card.  Mapping data cannot be shared between units.

2.  Yes, when both units are Ethernet connected and running; each unit can “see” the waypoints that the other unit has in its memory (unless you set them not to be shared).

3.  As stated above; you will need a mapping card for each unit.  Other than that you will need an Ethernet connection cable and you are good to go.

Final Question: not sure what you are meaning by “but will I also be able to see,(except SI) everything I have done on the 858”.  You will not be able to share sonar between these units as you would two DI or two Si units but will be able to share waypoint and water temperature readings.

Thank you Greg
I will get 2 map chips, and be good to go I guess.
One other quick question I will be running a HDS 7 all by its self, for dedicated GPS and highspeed running. IYO would I need another battery
just for electronics, running a champ 206 w/250HPDI with 1 starting battery and 2 TM batteries enough. I'm thinking with 3 units I may need a extra battery

Thank you again
Greg

Depending on how long between runs with the boat your boat and how long those runs are (and so how recharged your cranking battery gets) you may.  Safe is better than sorry, so I would opt for the third battery unless you plan on push starting your boat.  :o  ;D
