Help - Set-up for Ethernet and transducers .....
« on: May 08, 2013, 10:58:03 AM »
Hi everyone,

Just got my brand new boat with 3 brand new Birds ready to go ...... except ..... cant seem to get the other two units to find a transducer.

Here's how it's set up ;

All are units networked via Ethernet port.

(x1) 898c SI ; (x2) 858 cx

- 898 is at helm with external GPS antenna and transducer y cable running the supplied SI transducer and one of the regular transducers from one of the 858's. Both transducer are running into the 898.

- Don't know if it's pertinent to this discussion, but I also have the Terrova i-pilot link motor networked in???

here's the issue;

The 858's DO NOT give me the option to recognize or choose a transducer for imaging - they do, however, recognize the GPS antenna.

Don't know how to trouble shoot this ........ anyone??????

 Maybe it,s a wrong setting in your options somewhere. Maybe search these videos there might be an answer in there.

I am assuming that you are running the 6.610 software in each of these units, correct?

I’m not sure that this will help or not EZM but it might be worth a try.
- With all units on: unplug the Ethernet cables to each unit.
- Use the Restore Defaults menu on each unit and power them off.
- Power on the 898 unit first and allow it a few minutes to load all the programming and start working.
- Power on first one 858cX unit than the other one, also allowing them a few minutes to get up and running before trying to select the shared transducer again.

i am assuming i will re-connect all three to ethernet prior to final powering up?

both 858 display a grey snapshot and recording view right now  - fyi.

the 898 only displays one tranducer - hi-def sidescan with one name - not two like connected.

where/how are the transducers connected? if they are connected to a transducer switch, Ethernet will only recognize one at a time, depending which on is selected.

Just update software for all three units to newest version 6.10

858's now recognize "a" transducer. There is now a 2D tab in there as well. The 2d transducer is listed as the helm unit's SI HD transducer - is that correct?

however, looking at the 898 - it only has one transducer (or is the function of the y cable to make it appear that way?) is so ....... cool ........I'm all set. ......

I was just expecting to see two transducers separately - but it still says SI HD transducer ...... and has a 2D tab as well (on the 898).

If the function of the y cable is to make it idiot proof .... then cool ........ I'm set up and I guess I don't need to do anything further ....

So neither of the 858cX units has a transducer connected directly to them?

If the 898c Si unit has two transducers connected via a Y-cable, than they will only show as a single transducer.  The unit does not know that there are two transducers so there will be not selection in the Ethernet menus for the second transducer.

Yes that's correct only the 898 has the transducers connected to it via y cable.

I wanted to make sure everything was cool - my next step is to add my i-pilot link motor (with built in transducer) up to the set up .......

If the 2 transducers on the transom count as one .... cool. The i-pilot link transducer will be the "second" transducer option available for the bow mount 858 when I'm drift fishing, slow trolling or still fishing and pulsing around. All three units will default to transom transducers as I'm using the electric 30% or less of the time.

Thanks everyone ..... looks like I'm set-up ...... now ...... the i-pilot link ........lol...... ::)
